Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union" moments after a combative Gov. Ron DeSantis went back and forth with host Jake Tapper over anti-Semitic comments made by Elon Musk, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) smirked and needled the Florida Republican for pleading ignorance.
When asked about the X owner seemingly agreeing with a poster who claimed Jews are trying to replace white Christians in America, DeSantis attempted to blow off the question by saying he wasn't aware of the exchange and the blowback that has been creating headlines for days as advertisers flee the social media platform.
Speaking with host Tapper, Raskin was skeptical that DeSantis was that much in the dark.
"The guy is running for president and Elon Musk did that on Wednesday," Raskin began. "It's Sunday. This is four days later, and he has not had the chance to read what Elon Musk wrote? That is very hard for me to believe."
"In any event, you showed it to him and he still chose to not condemn it," the Maryland Democrat continued. "If you're serious about condemning and confronting anti-semitism and racism and these bigotries, which are the gateway to the destruction of liberal democracy, you have got to be explicit and open and full-throated about it and denounce racism and extremism across the board."
