'Flat earth people': Giuliani attorney insults Trump's followers during Georgia trial

Joe Sibley, an attorney for Rudy Giuliani, seemed to insult Donald Trump's supporters by comparing them to people who believe the Earth is flat.

During the third day of a defamation trial, The Guardian's Sam Levine explained Sibley's strategy was to suggest Giuliani helped Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss when he defamed them with falsehoods about the 2020 presidential election.

Freeman and Moss seek between $15.5 million and $43 million in damages from Giuliani. The money would fund a media campaign to repair the former election workers' reputations.

"Sibley is now testing the idea that perhaps the defamation campaign by Giuliani actually helped Freeman and Moss, noting they were awarded the presidential citizens medal and Moss won the JFK profile in courage award," Levine reported from the trial.

"Is the whole goal of your theory of reputation damages to forcibly convert election deniers through reeducation campaigns?" Sibley reportedly asked, according to WUSA's Jordan Fischer.

Dr. Ashlee Humphreys, an expert witness on reputational damage, said no.

"Why are we wasting time on Flat Earth people?" Sibley huffed, referring to Trump supporters who believe the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
