MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace mocks Trump Tower participant excuses: They seem 'too stupid' to collude
On today's episode of Deadline: White House on MSNBC, Nicole Wallace and her guests marveled at the absurdity of the Trump campaign's alleged meeting with representatives of the Russian government.
"They could have conspired, colluded, it may not be a crime, but the fact that you would sit down with representatives of the Russian government -- the Russian government -- to get information on your opponent in a presidential general election is astonishing," former US Attorney Chuck Rosenberg said.
The administration's defenders have excused their actions in a variety of baffling ways. Rudy Giuliani appeared on Fox last night to make the case that everybody does what the Trump campaign is accused of doing.
"The idea that Rudy's message around this is everybody does it... " Wallace said. "No, they don't."
"I sort of accept this ... unwitting theory," Wallace said. "Perhaps they didn't know. But see the idea that it's gone so far over the line from what could be truly innocent ... collusion curiosity to now alleging there was a spy... "
Wallace pulled up another clip from Giuliani's media tour, in which he tried to justify the campaign's actions on Fox and Friends this morning.
Wallace's takeaway?
"He ... and they ... were too stupid to collude," she says, laughing.
