A bizarre rant by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy at a rally in Michigan on Monday fell flat with the audience and members of a MS NOW panel were beside themselves with laughter.
Appearing in Michigan to boost the candidacy of former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers who is running for a Senate seat, a very animated Duffy exclaimed, “This is my pet peeve. I don’t know if you know about it. You know the stop/start button on your car? I hate that thing. Thank you [EPA Director] Lee Zeldin! He’s gotten rid of it and the first cars without the stop/start button are rolling off the line. Pet peeve: I hate it.”
After sharing the clip on “Morning Joe,” laughing co-host, Willie Geist, drolly commented, “Three people clapped for that.”
"Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, speaking at a rally in Michigan yesterday for Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers, revealing his disdain for those very easy to use on off push buttons that turn on the car,” he added before prompting, “Jonathan Lemire, any context you could provide? Any explanation, perhaps? Is anyone annoyed except for Secretary Duffy?”
“As someone put it on Twitter, so much of Trump administration policy seems to be dictated from like confused boomer vibes,” co-host Lemire added. “And that's what this feels like here, that there's someone out there who's just sort of annoyed at that button. Like, ‘I like the way the key turns in the ignition, and I wish it would go back to that.’”
He then elaborated, “People complain about the way the engine sometimes will stop at a red light, and it starts back up again — the list goes on and on. But this is the problem, is that this is an administration like this — we can laugh about this, but we have seen so many other ways where just the president or people around him, his personal feelings about something change into policy.”
