MSNBC "Morning Joe" co-host Joe Scarborough laid into Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) over his comments on Sunday on Fox News where he refused to concede that Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election.
During his appearance with Fox host Chris Wallace, Scalise continually rebuffed attempts to get, at one time telling the Fox personality, "I've been very clear from the beginning, "If you look at a number of states, they didn't follow their state-passed laws that govern the election for president. That is what the United States Constitution says. They don't say that the states determine what the rules are. They say the state legislatures determine the rules."
Reacting to the interview with an audible groan, the MSNBC host went off on the Louisiana Republican.
"It's unbelievable, it's really unbelievable," he began. "That's really sleazy, it's cynical and despicable-- let me use the word: it's deplorable."
"Still lying and spreading lies for your constituents and the American people about what happened in last year's election is deplorable," he continued. "When you have Trump's justices across the United States saying there wasn't any widespread voter fraud. When you have the Supreme Court of the United States saying yes, in Pennsylvania, the supreme court let -- overrode what the state legislatures did."
"This had nothing to do with him lacking common sense," he continued. "It had everything to do with Republicans lacking common decency, who understands a peaceful transition is the most decent thing we can do and our men and women fought for and died for through the years. it does not work if you only respect elections when your side wins. That's what they do in communist countries. Hey, Steve Scalise, that's not what they do here. "
