Steve Bannon called for investigations of several Fox News commentators who have been urging president Donald Trump to order a military strike on Iran.
The right-wing influencer played a clip of former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany arguing that Iran had taken American hostages and wreaked "havoc on the world," and she urged the president to order an airstrike on the country's Fordow nuclear site.
"America First is not sitting in a beach chair and using words," McEnany said. "It’s taking decisive action when we can take out Fordow with one swoop of an airplane.”
Bannon reacted to the clip by quoting McEnany suggesting the raid would likely be quick and painless for the U.S. and suggested she was working on behalf of a foreign government.
"'With one swoop of an airplane,'" Bannon said. "Of course, Kayleigh McEnany is infantile, let's be blunt. That right there is dangerous, that is dangerous and that is on Fox all day long. I'm absolutely serious. Why do you not think that they're representing a foreign government – Hannity, Levin, the whole crowd. There should be an investigation."
Fox News pundit Mark Levin has reportedly been telling Trump that Iran was days away from producing a nuclear weapon, and "War Room" host suggested that Fox News host Sean Hannity had been advocating for an attack, which Bannon and others in the isolationist wing of the MAGA movement strongly oppose.
"MAGA on MAGA - let them fight…," posted former Virginia delegate Barbara Comstock.
Trump has set a two-week deadline for Iran to reach a nuclear agreement or face a possible U.S. military strike, joining in operations already conducted by Israel against a number of targets.
