President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy denounced Tuesday night the leaking of an intelligence report to CNN, which earlier had reported on an initial U.S. intelligence assessment that undercut Trump's boast that Iran's nuclear program had been "obliterated."
The report, produced by the Defense Intelligence Agency, found that recent U.S. military strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites didn't destroy vital components of the nation's nuclear program — and likely only delayed its progress by a few months. The report was described as top secret. While the White House acknowledged the report's existence, press secretary Karoline Leavitt reamed the report.
"This alleged assessment is flat-out wrong and was classified as ‘top secret’ but was still leaked to CNN by an anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community," she said. "The leaking of this alleged assessment is a clear attempt to demean President Trump, and discredit the brave fighter pilots who conducted a perfectly executed mission to obliterate Iran’s nuclear program. Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration.”
Steve Witkoff, the administration's Middle East envoy, echoed her sentiments Tuesday night to Laura Ingraham on her Fox News show.
"It goes without saying that leaking that kind of information, whatever the information, whatever site it comes out on, it's outrageous," he raged. "It's treasonous. It ought to be investigated."
Witkoff demanded that whoever the culprit was ought to be held to account, as the leak could "hurt lives in the future." He then proceeded to give Ingraham a run-down of multiple assessments from multiple governments.
Witkoff said the Trump administration was concerned with three facilities, one of which was the country's lone conversion facility, which was destroyed.
"It was hit with a 30,000-pound bunker buster, and it could not survive that hit," he said. "So they have no conversion opportunity and that means they cannot weaponize even if they've enriched to 90%."
He noted there were two other nuclear reactors, one above ground and another below. Both, he insisted, were "eviscerated."
Witkoff then addressed the Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant and said they dropped a dozen bunker-buster bombs.
"There's no doubt that it breached the canopy. There's no doubt that it reached the depth that these bunker buster bombs go to. And there's no doubt that it was obliterated," he added. "So reporting out there that somehow suggests that we did not complete the objective is just completely preposterous."
