He ran for president and lost to Trump. Now, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is being accused by the former president's allies of getting revenge by secretly supporting his political Florida foe.
"Despite the fact that President Trump holds a commanding lead in the Republican Primary polls heading into the Iowa Caucus, Senator Ted Cruz has yet to endorse President Donald Trump in his race against globalist Nikki Haley and absentee Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, leading many to believe that Cruz may be a closeted DeSantis supporter," writes Laura Loomer on her eponymous blog Loomered. Loomer's content is frequently shared by Trump.
The piece was teased in a tweet by Loomer asking: "Is @tedcruz Supporting @RonDeSantis For President?"
Roger Stone, hard right conservative political consultant and lobbyist who is a Trump loyalist, answered with a Cruz-cutting question of his own (which he then answered).
"Why do people who meet him take an instantaneous dislike to Ted Cruz," he tweeted. "Simple, they are merely saving time."
In the article, Loomer starts to lay out a case proving the Texas senator is anti-Trump.

He supposedly dined with Nevada Republican Sen. Adam Laxalt on Dec. 17, when Trump held a rally in Reno.
The apparent nexus involves a strategist named Jeff Roe, who she claims is running Laxalt’s campaign; and at one point steered Cruz's 2016 short-lived try for the White House.
Earlier this month, Roe also made a hasty exit from DeSantis' super PAC Never Back Down, saying he couldn't "in good conscience stay affiliated with Never Back Down” after it was reported that there were tensions amongst the campaign as the Iowa Caucuses were nearing.
Loomer, who has been floated as a possible press secretary should Trump get a second chance at being president, suggests that a swampy effort is underway within the GOP trying to stymie Trump's path to 1600 Pennsylvania. Loomer explained that there are telltale signs that Cruz has drifted to Camp DeSantis.
"There is, without a doubt, a tremendous overlap between donors to the anti-Trump establishment wing of the Republican Party, and Senator Ted Cruz," she writes. "What role is Ted Cruz playing in the many different campaigns in the Republican Presidential Primary designed to attempt to derail President Trump, most specifically, the failing campaign of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis?"
