'Five-alarm house on fire' declared as ABC's The View skips out on Jimmy Kimmel coverage

The biggest news story Wednesday afternoon into Thursday was the termination of ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel after Federal Communications Commission Chairman (FCC) Brendan Carr told the far-right Benny Show the FCC might go after the network.

"We can do this the easy way or the hard way," Carr said on Wednesday. "These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead."

Hours later, Kimmel was out.

But when Thursday's episode of "The View" was on air, the political topics were the hearings with FBI Director Kash Patel and former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) chair Susan Monarez.

The women hosting the highest-rated daytime talk show were silent on the matter.

This comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly told "The View" in May that they had to tone down their criticism of President Donald Trump, the Daily Beast reported.

Viewers noticed the absence of comments on the matter too, taking to social media sites like X and Bluesky to express confusion and anger.

One person asked why the show was a rerun, only for a New York City court reporter to say it wasn't.

"The View today is NOT a rerun. They are just IGNORING the biggest topic of the day: JIMMY KIMMEL! The View might as well be over too," said Millie Cassese.

One person went so far as to call on long-time host Whoopi Goldberg to quit the show and that ABC shutting up the hosts was a "five-alarm house on fire."

"The ladies of The View being censored in front of my very eyes omg they’re not allowed to talk about the Kimmel cancellation," one influencer said on X.

Others suggested they were likely told to keep it quiet on Kimmel.

One wrote, “I feel like I’m watching legacy media – or TV, at least – commit seppuku in real time. 'Hey, let’s forever alienate (likely more than) half our audience to please a guy who will be out of power in three years.' Like… broadcast TV was already circling the drain in terms of numbers. Why tarnish the one thing you still have: your brand?”

President Donald Trump told the press on Thursday that Kimmel was not fired over his statements about MAGA but rather he had "no talent" and low ratings.
