Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) accused Republican leaders Wednesday of sending House members home early to derail his attempt to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Speaker Mike Johnson canceled Thursday’s vote, likely delaying action on the impeachment resolution Massie introduced Tuesday over Hegseth’s handling of the war in Iran.

“And there it is. Just as I predicted,” Massie wrote on X. “They’re canceling Congress tomorrow to avoid the vote on IMPEACHING @SecWar.”

Massie said the revised schedule could also disrupt another effort.

“It will also make it harder for us to reach 218 signatures on the Epstein Discharge Petition before the election,” he added. “We were at 190+ signatures last night.”

The House is not expected to return from its midterm recess until after the election.
