Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) is reportedly “all for” the Alabama Supreme Court's highly controversial new decision, but he opposes its effect and wants to read the legislation that doesn’t exist because a ruling is not a bill.

Tuberville’s contradictions and misrepresentations of the court’s ruling that frozen embryos are babies — a decision that puts in vitro fertilization procedures in peril in the state — occurred within a short three-minute time span, according to Huffington Post reporter Jennifer Bendery.

“Just a spectacular turn of events in Tommy Tuberville's thoughts in those three minutes,” Bendery posted on X. “I am also not sure the Alabama senator knew that this Alabama court decision means that families in Alabama are already being denied IVF treatments.”

It also remains unclear if Tuberville understands the difference between fertilization and abortion.

Bendery reports that Tuberville initially praised the ruling at the Conservative Political Action Conference, but said his explanation “made no sense.”

“We need to have more kids,” Tuberville said. “We need to have an opportunity to do that. I thought this was the right thing to do.”

Reporters were quick to point out that this would mean less children for people seeking IVF treatments at Alabama health clinics that have halted the procedure in fear of disobeying the law.

Tuberville reportedly pivoted to a topic on which he felt more comfortable.

“Try to work it out to where it’s best for everybody,” he said. “I mean, that’s what the whole abortion issue is about.”

The court’s decision is not about abortion. Tuberville, it appears agreed.

“I know, I know,” Tuberville said. “I agree, people need to have access. We need more kids. We need people to have the opportunity to have kids.”
