Special counsel Jack Smith is taking steps to stop Donald Trump from using the court to spin election conspiracy theories.
In a Wednesday filing, Smith says, among other things, that he wants to exclude specific pieces of evidence and arguments in the 2020 election trial that include Trump's claims that he's being targeted or that the election is being interfered with because of his prosecution.
The special prosecutor also cites conspiracies including claims that undercover federal agents were in the Jan. 6 crowd instigated the MAGA supporters' attack the Capitol.
Far-right social media users immediately vented against Smith's ask that Trump should be prevented from introducing evidence that President Joe Biden is weaponizing the government to target him as a political opponent because it has no bearing on whether or not Trump is actually guilty of the crimes he's charged with.

They claim that barring him from making the claims is against the First Amendment.
Another point that Trump may quibble with is Smith's request to exclude any evidence about agencies that prepared for Jan. 6 because it would force unnamed government witnesses to breach their attorney-client privilege and the Constitution's Speech and Debate clause.
