Evangelical Christians in Iowa who backed former President Donald Trump in 2020 are expressing unease about nominating him again in 2024.
Semafor reports that a Frank Luntz-led group of Iowa evangelicals this week found cracks in the former president's support despite the fact that polls show him easily beating top rival Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
One panelist expressed skepticism that the former president would be able to win back any of the voters who swing toward President Joe Biden nearly three years ago.
“Do you know of any people that now support Trump that didn’t support him then?” he asked. “He’s only losing voters.”

Other participants echoed DeSantis' claims about Trump pushing through "Operation: Warp Speed," which was partly responsible for developing an effective vaccine against the novel coronavirus.
“The biggest difference between DeSantis and Trump for me is DeSantis drives the boat,” one participant said. “Trump looks to see where the wind is blowing, and drives in that direction. Whether it’s the right direction or not.”
And although many focus group participants believed the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, one woman who took part in the group wondered why he wasn't able to stop it then and how he would possibly be able to stop it now that he's no longer president.
