Former President Donald Trump is crushing the GOP competition despite well established baggage that includes two impeachments, four indictments, and a jury that found him liable for sexual abuse.
But presidential historian Michael Beschloss, appearing on MSNBC following the former president's Tuesday victory in the Granite State, questioned whether the electorate so far has been choosing wisely.
He thinks many may have buyer's remorse.
"This is not someone who's exactly the most self disciplined candidate the Republicans could have for the presidency," Beschloss said. "Look at the way he's been talking during the last week; he's not in control of what he says. He confuses Nancy Pelosi with Nikki Haley."
Indeed, last week former President Donald Trump assailed Nikki Haley for failing to fortify the Capitol in lieu of the riots that erupted on Jan. 6 during a rally in Concord, New Hampshire.
Trump claimed Haley was "offered 10,000 people" on Jan. 6, and accused her of deleting of potentially exculpatory video evidence.
Only he mixed up Haley for his true target: former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Beschloss suspects it's this kind of mental lapse while under the spotlight to be a symptom of something so much more critical when it comes to running the free world.
"He makes other mistakes that seem to be getting more, rather than less," he explained. "If I were a Republican, which I'm not, I would say this has ended too quickly and has saddled us with a candidate that may turn out to be unelectable."
