As the 2024 election looms, tensions are breaking out between Donald Trump's closest aides and an outside policy think tank made up of ex-Trump officials who are sucking up donations by misrepresenting their influence.
This is all coming to a head based upon a memo obtained by the Daily Beast, sent from Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita —Trump's top campaign advisors — to the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) which has been tasked with creating a policy blueprint for a potential second Trump administration.
As the Beast is reporting, Trump's inner circle is furious with the AFPI for sucking up donations that they feel should be going into 2024 campaign coffers while selling themselves as having the ex-president's ear.
In the memo, Wiles and LaCivita wrote that AFPI, does not "speak for President Trump or his campaign” before adding, "Therefore, these reports about personnel and policies that are specific to a second Trump Administration are purely speculative and theoretical. Any personnel lists, policy agendas, or government plans published anywhere are merely suggestions.”
Former Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro also piled on AFPI, telling the Daily Beast, "All they are doing is misusing the Trump brand to raise money to hand out extravagant stipends and pay extravagant rent for their policy operation that doesn’t reflect Trump policy. They oughta shut that place down now and just turn things over to Susie Wiles.”
Navarro added, "Trump knows where to find people to hire. Susie knows where to find people to hire."
