Former Biden Communications Director Kate Bedingfield on Monday tore into Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump for her attacks on Larry Hogan after he said that Americans should respect the guilty verdict leveled against former President Donald Trump.
Speaking on CNN, Bedgingfield said that Trump's decision to excoriate Hogan simply for saying that the American judicial system should be respected was political malpractice, as she was attacking a man whom most political analysts think is the only shot Republicans have of winning a Senate seat in deep-blue Maryland.
"Broadly speaking, for the RNC and the Trump campaign ... this is a completely bananas political strategy," she said.
She then went on to cite polling that has come out after Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records to cover up hush-money payments that most voters believed that the jury made the correct decision.

"More than half of independents think that Trump should end his campaign as a result of this verdict!" she pointed out. "And a not-insignificant number of Republicans think he should end his campaign before of this verdict. So we saw this play out... throughout the Republican primary, where a significant number of Republicans voted for Nikki Haley long after she dropped out because they had been expressing their 'Never Trump' frustration."
She then said that the Trump campaign's strategy seems to be to "double down, triple down, quadruple down" on alienating these wary voters, which she described as "crazy" given that the election is expected to be decided by incredibly narrow margins.
"I think ultimately it's not going to resonate with the voters that they need to win over," she emphasized.
