A statement from Donald Trump that he regrets not banning Twitter -- as well as Facebook -- back when he was still president was received with rolled-eyes and mockery on the social network where he himself is banned.
Tuesday the former president issued a statement praising Nigeria -- a country Trump previously referred to as a "sh*thole" -- for banning the platform.
"Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their President. More COUNTRIES should ban Twitter and Facebook for not allowing free and open speech—all voices should be heard. In the meantime, competitors will emerge and take hold. Who are they to dictate good and evil if they themselves are evil? Perhaps I should have done it while I was President. But Zuckerberg kept calling me and coming to the White House for dinner telling me how great I was. 2024?" the statement read.
Commenters were quick to point out that hatred of Twitter made strange bedfellows between Trump and Nigeria, and that the ex-president's vendetta after having had his account shuttered has become a sad spectacle.

Turns out it is easy to overestimate Trump and extremely difficult to have sufficiently low expectations for his understanding of US law.— Debatably Blonde🇺🇸😷 (@Debatably Blonde🇺🇸😷) 1623188211

Love how he is also so clueless that he doesn't realize the last part of this statement shows what a pushover he is. Just make the big boy feel special and he won't bother you.— Adrienne (@Adrienne) 1623188466

This was almost a surprise for me until I remembered that the ousted president could do anything to stay relevant, same man who ostentatiously called Nigeria a shit hole.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of thing..— Apoti Eri💫 (@Apoti Eri💫) 1623221204
