As a brutal winter storm bears down on Iowa, former President Donald Trump is one of many candidates forced to cancel campaign events ahead of the caucuses next week, reported NBC News on Friday evening.

"Former President Donald Trump, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson were all forced to cancel campaign events," said the report. However, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy is attempting to move forward with campaign events regardless.

Meanwhile, according to the report, "DeSantis plans to fly to South Carolina, not New Hampshire, immediately after the Iowa caucuses."

The field continues to be narrowed as former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) dropped out of the race this week, and several candidates fight to consolidate the anti-Trump vote.

However, national polling suggests that Trump currently commands 60 percent of the GOP primary electorate, and that he is likely to win the Iowa caucuses as well.

Haley and DeSantis, the two main candidates who are seen by some experts as merely fighting for runner-up, are reportedly hoping to pull off an overperformance in Iowa to attract greater voter and donor interest for later contests.
