Speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper on Tuesday, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson and the author of the new book "Enough" said that people shouldn't ignore Donald Trump's threats because she believes he's serious.
In a recent move, Trump wrote on his social media site that he despised Gen. Mark Milley so much that he considers him a traitor who deserves to be executed.
"How seriously do you take it?" asked Tapper. "I mean, Milley has suggested to people, according to The Atlantic, that he expected if Donald Trump is elected president again, that Donald Trump will try to go after him. When you see that, do you think he means it? Or do you think oh, that is just hot air?"
Hutchinson, who was on the show to promote her book, agreed Trump meant what he said.
"I think that we've seen it first hand," Hutchinson explained. "I do believe that he means it. What I would like to say is this: I think for years we have not held Donald Trump accountable for the things he says. And when he says those things and when he strokes those vitriolic comments with people who have profound years defending our democracy, like Gen. Milley, we need to take him seriously. People have been holding him (Trump) accountable for the past years but not accountable enough. Because we're in a position right now where it is looking more likely than not that he could be the Republican nominee. And he has also been indicted four times."
She continued saying that the public is continuing to give someone a platform who advocated for the execution of a general.
"That is not what we should stand for as Americans and I think that Donald Trump is the most grave threat that we will face — to our democracy in our lifetime and potentially in American history," Hutchinson closed.
