A sportswriter who's published a book about President Donald Trump's golf habits mocked his claim about winning dozens of championships.
The president boasted about winning 38 golf titles in an extended riff during his Thanksgiving Day phone call to military service members, but The Daily Beast reported that longtime golf writer Rick Reilly ridiculed his claims on social media.
"Ha! Trump adds about 10 every time he brings this up," Reilly posted on X. "Problem is, he hasn't actually won any. None. You beat Trump, he throws you out of the club."
"It's like when you let your toddler beat you in a foot race," he added. "He thinks it's real."
The president bragged to service members that he had won the championships despite having little time to practice.
"I beat a 27-year-old kid," the president claimed. "I’ve won 38 of them, every one of them legitimately.”
Trump had been asked about his handicap and whether he would ever play a round with former President Joe Biden, whose skills he disparaged.
“A lot of people talk, but they can’t play, like Biden,” Trump said. “Biden can’t hit a ball 30 yards. I’m telling you, I looked at his swing. He cannot hit a ball 30 yards. He said he was a 6-handicapped. That was the only thing that made me angry during the debate with him.”
Reilly published the 2019 book "Commander in Cheat" accusing the president of being a cheater, and others have also made similar allegations about his golf game.
