President Donald Trump is offering some of the biggest holders of his meme coin a chance to dine with him — and the announcement immediately triggered accusations that the president is selling access.
The so-called “most exclusive dinner in the world” will invite the top 185 holders of $TRUMP to Trump National on Nov. 22, according to Washington Sun reporter Jeff Stein. The top 29 will receive access to a VIP reception, while the four highest-ranked holders will also receive Trump-branded 18-karat gold watches.
The promotion also promises “an evening with 3 Legends and President Donald J. Trump,” although the identities of those guests have not been announced.
Former Obama national security official Tommy Vietor unloaded on the arrangement.
“This is the most brazenly corrupt s**t I have ever seen in politics and its not even close,” Vietor, a Pod Save America co-host, wrote.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom similarly accused Trump of “selling access.”
“Trump’s corruption is SICK,” Newsom posted on X. “He is selling access to the White House. In California, I just banned public officials from issuing meme coins.”
Others piled on. ESPN radio host Matt Jones called Trump the “most corrupt politician likely of all time,” while Massachusetts Democratic congressional candidate Dan Koh branded the promotion “a disgrace to America.”
The Bulwark’s Sam Stein joked about hosting a similar function.
“I will host an EXCLUSIVE DINNER with the top purchasers of a Bulwark subscription,” he told his followers, before adding: “Not really, but maybe.”
This is the most brazenly corrupt shit I have ever seen in politics and its not even close. Ken Paxton read this tweet and thought...damn that's fucked up. https://t.co/5UoMwE5Dhj
