Trump needles DeSantis over accusation he's wearing platform heels

Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account on Monday to accuse Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis of wearing platform heels to mask how short he is.

"Tell me he's not wearing hidden heels," said the meme he shared, showing DeSantis on "Real Time with Bill Maher," dressed in boots coupled with an outline of where his feet supposedly really are.

DeSantis' footwear on the Maher appearance has been driving speculation and mockery for days, with the meme Trump tweeted being still shots from a viral TikTok video lambasting the governor.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?

All of this comes as DeSantis, who was once considered the most credible rival to Trump for the 2024 presidential nomination, has been slipping in polls amid media coverage of his policy views and interpersonal awkwardness on the campaign trail.

The latest polling average in FiveThirtyEight has Trump leading DeSantis by more than 40 points — and a number of other challengers like businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley stuck in the high single digits closely behind DeSantis.

The governor's campaign problems are reportedly starting to translate to cash problems, as donors lose faith and close their pocketbooks.

Trump appears to be self-conscious about his height as well. Being booked in the Fulton County Jail, he self-reported his height at 6'3", which shows the elderly man has grown since leaving the White House.
