A Fox News reporter’s brutal take down of President Donald Trump’s economic policies as the stock market continued its nosedive Tuesday sparked a wave of online commentary from observers who had plenty to say about the conservative network's correspondent's sudden shift.

The moment unfolded during Tuesday’s White House press briefing when Senior White House Correspondent Peter Doocy pressed White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on the effect the administration’s efforts to reform the government are having on the stock market.

“Is there any concern here that it’s going to be harder to ask certain federal workers to retire if they look at their retirement accounts and they’re getting rocked every day?” Doocy asked Leavitt during the briefing.

Doocy also offered viewers a critique of the administration just before the press briefing began.

“We also expect the White House to try to reassure folks who are sitting there looking at their 401(k)s going down and down and down," Doocy predicted. "This is a White House that came in trying to get federal workers to retire by the hundreds of thousands."

The comments from the president’s network of choice prompted a flood of reaction – including from a number of users who declared the Trump administration officially “lost Peter Doocy.”

“I'm not the first person to say it, but...you *know* things have gone horribly wrong when you've lost Peter Doocy,” writer Will Harris told his Bluesky followers.

“When you've lost Peter Doocy…,” independent journalist Aaron Rupar wrote on Bluesky.

“Peter Doocy is doing more than some Democrats,” opined Anthony Michael Kreis, a constitutional law professor at Georgia State University College of Law, on Bluesky.

“Fox News' Peter Doocy turns on Trump,” proclaimed Republicans Against Trumpism, above a clip of Doocy’s critical comments.

“In a stunning twist, far-right Fox News reporter Peter Doocy just trashed Trump for his failing economic policy,” Democratic Wins Media wrote on Bluesky. “This is wild.”

“That's a burner actually,” posted Bluesky user Bill DeMayo. “What is going on where Peter Doocy is being aggressive lmao.”

He followed that up with a second post: "Even Petr (sic) Doocy is lighting em up. What a timeline.”
