MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace noted Monday that President Donald Trump promised big wins for the economy last year and has so far delivered the opposite. She wondered on her show "Deadline: White House" where the top advisors are to curb his worst instincts.

"I guess what I'm trying to understand is, is there anyone in the cabinet who previously or prior to January 20th, advocated any of the policies that they are now on TV shows defending?" she asked reporter Vaughn Hillyard.

Hillyard noted that even Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent promised that the Trump's tariff policy would be more "tactical precision" rather than what Trump did with issuing broad taxes on specific countries.

"I think what Vaughn is saying is, 'no.' But weak weenies wreck economies and the weak weenies that make up the economic advisers to Donald Trump have never, on public record, advocated for any of the economic policies that have been ushered in over the last five weeks," she said when speaking to Charlie Sykes about the advisors unwilling to stand up to Trump.

Sykes said that for years Trump has promoted the idea of high tariffs for decades, as far back as the 1970s.

"So what you're seeing playing out is the world going, okay. We thought you had some clue about what you're doing. But this is disastrous," said Sykes. "And in the past, there were people around him who were able to say, no, don't do this. ... Nobody wins trade wars. But this is Trump unshackled, doing exactly what his aide tells him. And I think you're seeing the consequences of it, that that in fact, he is serious."

He noted that it would be interesting to see how Trump responds to the market drop on Monday, which plummeted over 1,100 points, finally closing down a little over 800 points. It comes after falling Thursday more than 600 points before closing just 427 points down.

Reporter John Heilemann said he's never wanted to contemplate "weak weenies" on Trump's Cabinet.

"I've got so much more where that came from!" Wallace interjected. "Weak weenies wreck economies. Weak weenies also wreck NATO and aid [Russian President Vladimir] Putin."
