Donald Trump's brittle complaint on Tuesday when reporters pressed his attorney general on a report on alleged pedophile Jeffrey Epstein exposed a chink in his armor that he and his administration have no idea how to handle the blowback, according to a new report.

According to a commentary from Newsweek's Jesse Edwards, Trump was forced to intercede when Attorney General Pam Bondi was peppered with questions about the mysterious death of Epstein and his response did not rise to the occasion.

In fact, as Edwards explained, the president "completely choked," and now he has created a maelstrom that is casting a cloud over his administration as a substantial number of his MAGA followers express their anger and dismay that he has not only betrayed them, but that he also become part of the "swamp" he vowed to drain.

Trump's response to reporters, where he exclaimed, "Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? I can't believe you're asking a question about Epstein at a time like this," was a "revealing moment," Edwards claimed.

"Trump's handling of the Epstein situation has been catastrophically bad," Edwards asserted before noting the president "didn't just dodge it. He panicked... It wasn't just a missed opportunity. It was a revealing moment that showed just how much he has to lose if people keep asking questions."

As he noted, that outburst just fueled the fire that his administration seems to have no idea how to put out.

"This is the guy who once claimed to have all the answers. Now, when confronted with one of the biggest questions from his own base, he is sweating like a man who just got caught with a burner phone and a one-way ticket on the 'Lolita Express,'" he wrote before adding, "This is not just political whiplash. It is ideological betrayal. And while some of his followers may continue to explain it away, many are seeing it for what it is. Trump didn't drain the swamp. He became its mascot."
