'Blatantly not true!' MSNBC analyst calls out Mike Johnson

MSNBC's Susan Del Percio ripped House Speaker Mike Johnson's criticism of California Gov Gavin Newsom as "blatantly" false.

The governor has been challenging President Donald Trump and other administration officials over their deployment of U.S. Marines and National Guard troops to Los Angeles, without his approval, to assist local law enforcement in their handling of immigration protests. The House speaker was asked to comment on Trump's suggestion that Newsom should be arrested.

"Look, that's not my lane," Johnson told reporters on Tuesday.

"I'm not going to give you legal analysis on whether Gavin Newsom should be arrested," the speaker continued. "But he ought to be tarred and feathered, I'll say that. He's standing in the way of the administration of carrying out federal law."

"He is applauding the bad guys and standing in the way of the good guys," Johnson added. "He is a participant, an accomplice."

Del Percio, a former Republican strategist, told "Ana Cabrera Reports" that Johnson was wrong about the governor's actions.

"That's not true," Del Percio said. "That is blatantly not true. They are, the governor is overseeing the state and the responsibility of safety, along with mayors on the ground, with the Los Angeles police department, California sheriff's office, they are responding."

However, Del Percio had some criticism of her own for Newsom, who dared border czar Tom Homan to arrest him if he believed his actions as governor broke the law

"Gavin Newsom has made such a hype about himself and trying to take on Trump, trying to get attention for himself that, frankly, he's the wrong messenger right now for this kind of thing, because he is always actively looking to be in the spotlight," Del Percio said. "So he is provoking in his own way, and because he likes it, ... yet it's hurting the people on the ground because everyone knows that he just wants the attention. I find it, I find it conflicting for that."

"More importantly, I think we're going to see Donald Trump continue pushing and forcing House members, especially, to get on the same page with him," she added, "and that's what the next phase of this is, why a congressman from somewhere in the Midwest is going to have to start commenting and backing Donald Trump up on something like this while backing up a bad budget. I mean, this is going to cause a lot of problems for a lot of Republicans."
