A Texas Republican gave biblical reasons for getting the U.S. involved in Israel's military conflict with Iran.
Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) questioned Sen. Kaine (D-VA) for seeking to stop Donald Trump from ordering U.S. troops to attack the Middle Eastern country without congressional approval, and the GOP lawmaker said now might be the time to "end" its threat against Israel.
"I think president Trump is right," Williams said. "He's got us to a point where these guys need to take a hard look at their selves and surrender, and if they don't surrender it may be that we have to end it. We got the best friend we got in Israel, they're doing a fantastic job, they're controlling the airspace now, so we just need to see."
The president has demanded nothing less than a "complete give-up" by Iran, and he made clear he expected Israel to destroy its nuclear capabilities without U.S. assistance, but Williams said American troops might be necessary.
"Look, it’s biblical, okay," Williams said. "I’m one of those – it’s biblical. We support Israel. Israel is our friend. We need to be with them, and Sen. Kaine, I just would want to know what side he is really on."
