Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) challenged Donald Trump's so-called "border czar," Tom Homan, for threatening to arrest anyone who stands in the way of mass deportations across the United States.

Thus far, Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has made it clear that he won't cooperate with the federal government. Homan threatened to arrest him.

"But look, me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing — he's willing to go to jail. I'm willing to put him in jail because there — there's a statute. It's Title 8 United States Code 1324 (iii). And what it says is it's a felony if you knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien from immigration authorities. It's also a felony to impede a federal law enforcement officer," Homan told Fox host Sean Hannity during an interview on Monday night.

The "border czar" isn't an official presidential appointment, and the Senate doesn't confirm the post. Still, Trump has indicated he will appoint Homan to carry out the mass deportations.

Speaking to CNN's Jim Acosta, Crockett pointed out that the position was "made up" and "this isn't something that the Senate has to consent to."

She called Homan nothing more than "a random kind of henchman of Donald Trump's."

"If this man wants to be the one that is going to enforce our laws, then maybe we should look for him to be the attorney general of the United States, because seemingly, it doesn't matter whether or not you're qualified to fulfill that position," Crockett said, referring to the previous pledge to appoint former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

"For Trump, it's just about whether or not you will arrest the people that he wants arrested," Crockett continued. "And this was one of those things that we tried to warn people about with 'Project 2025,' which is this idea of we will go out and we will incarcerate people."

Now, she said, there are Trump allies saying they'll "criminalize those that are not doing what Trump wants them to do."

Acosta asked how it would impact her district and Crockett made it clear, "I mean, listen, you can't lock everybody up."

She is, however, concerned about how this move will impact the economics of cities and states.
