Detroit News reporter Craig Mauger appeared on CNN Friday to spill more details about his bombshell report about a recording of former President Donald Trump pressuring canvassers in Michigan to not certify the results of the 2020 election.

When asked by CNN's Poppy Harlow if Mauger would release audio of the call, where Trump told the canvassers that he would hook them up with lawyers if they refused to certify the results, the reporter replied that it was out of his hands.

"There's a whistleblower that possesses the audio of these recordings," he explained. "And the timing of the release and the ultimate decision on whether to release these recordings publicly is up to that person. You know, we were able to go as far as we could possibly go working with this person and another individual for this story and the decision on whether the recordings will be released will come down the road."

Mauger was then asked about whether special counsel Jack Smith knows about or has access to the recordings.

"I don't know if Jack Smith has these recordings," he acknowledged. "I can't really speak to that. I think that, you know, investigators at multiple levels looking into the pressure and the effort by Donald Trump and his supporters to overturn the election in Michigan. And... these recordings seem to fit with a lot of other information we have already."
