Donald Trump's latest out-of-nowhere promise for his second term as president raised eyebrows and prompted laughter.

The president-elect posted the statement Tuesday, saying America is going to start building monuments to our great heroes and heroines again!!! DJT"

It's not clear what prompted the comment, but lawmakers from both parties vowed to fight back if he carried through on his campaign pledge to restore Confederate monuments, including the names of military bases, and social media users seemed to interpret his Truth Social post as possibly being related to that.

"My mind first went to presidents like Andrew Jackson but it’s probably going to be like the QAnon Shaman and Grimace and the war criminal soldiers he pardoned," said Gizmodo tech reporter Matt Novak.

"Is Trump going to build an Iwo-Jima type monument to the J6 insurrectionists?" added Bluesky user Chris Panza. "Or is he talking about resurrecting Confederate monuments? Or both?"

"Apart from the Great Orange Overlord himself, which people would Trump be in favor of erecting monuments to? (Wrong answers are impossible.)" added Bluesky user Koosemar. "I’ll start: an Arnold Palmer statue in the style of a Greek marble nude."

"Lemme guess," said Bluesky user Art Candee. "This clown is gonna try to put his face on Mount Rushmore?"

"Hey DOGE, sounds like waste to me," said X pundit Brian Krasserstein. "What do you think? Who is he going to build monuments of? Rudy Giuliani and Paul Manafort?"
