CNN senior justice reporter Evan Perez laughed his way through a news segment on Tuesday moments after Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) told reporters she believes two shooters were involved in the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy.
“I mean, look, so to be clear we've seen no evidence to indicate that there is anything to this,” Perez said.
The moment came as the network played a clip of Luna being introduced as head of the new Task Force on Declassification of Federal Secrets. At a news conference Tuesday, Luna said Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas would be at the top of an investigative list of cultural topics that have intrigued the American public for decades.
“Based on what I've been seeing so far, the initial hearing that was actually held here in Congress was actually faulty in the single bullet theory,” Luna told reporters. “I believe that there were two shooters.”

The FBI’s revelation that it had discovered new files associated with JFK’s assassination raised new questions. But Perez delivered an explanation.
“It appears that what happened with the FBI is that, you know, you had old records that were not filed correctly or categorized correctly, so they didn't know they existed until an order from President Biden to digitize these documents. And so that's how they found these additional documents. Whether they will answer that persistent question that is still out there – and I think, you know, obviously, we should keep a mind open. We’ll see.”
He added that the mystery surrounding the files “is why this is going to be like the forever Netflix show.”
Along with a probe into the JFK assassination, Luna said the task force would also probe the assassinations of "RFK and Dr. Martin Luther King, unidentified aerial phenomena, also known as UAPs, unidentified submerge objects, also known as USOs, the Epstein client list, the origins of Covid-19 and the 9/11 files.”
