A new CNN poll paints a gloomy picture for Donald Trump just 100 days into his return to the White House, which network analysts described as a major warning sign for the president.
The new poll out Monday shows Americans are increasingly souring on Trump over the chief issue that helped fuel his comeback: the economy. According to CNN’s Kasie Hunt, Trump’s overall approval rating “has sunk to a historic low,” as more details about the American public's growing dissatisfaction with the economy emerge.
“It doesn't look good,” Hunt said. She added that it was “really remarkable” that just 4% of people described themselves as enthusiastic about the economy.
The poll found inflation remains the dominant concern for American families, with 28% identifying it as their top economic problem, while another 16% cited food costs. CNN’s David Chalian emphasized Monday how damaging these findings could be for Trump.

“This is the stuff that he promised on day one would change after he was elected,” Chalian said. “That's a troubling sign that that's still the top concern for people about their family's economic condition.”
When asked how they feel about the state of the "Trump economy," the results were equally as bleak. According to Chalian, 37% said they are “downright afraid.”
CNN conservative Scott Jennings said he saw the new polling data as a sign that “it's time for ‘let's make a deal.’”
“We've had an organ transplant in the Republican Party,” Jennings said. “The new organ is tariffs. This has not been part of the body of Republicans. He added that “less chaos is good” in the Oval Office and suggested that deals in the areas of trade, peace and taxes “are good.”
CNN’s Chuck Todd put things more bluntly: “This is his best subject, and you messed up this,” he said about Trump’s handling of the economy. “This is why I think it's been so catastrophic to him politically.”
