Appearing on MSNBC on Saturday afternoon to discuss Donald Trump's faltering bid to be granted presidential immunity for his actions related to the Jan. 6 insurrection, former Watergate prosecutor Nick Akerman stated the former president stands no chance of winning and that he expects him to eventually end up in "the big house."

Speaking with MSNBC host Katie Phang, Akerman bluntly said of Trump's immunity bid: "There is no way a president can achieve absolute immunity in the criminal sphere."

Pressed on Trump's legal team's efforts to convince the three judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to rule in favor of the embattled ex-president, Akerman scoffed and remarked, "This is something that they made up out of whole cloth. It really has no basis in the Constitution, it has no basis in any kind of law that is in effect in this country — it just isn't there. They made it up and there is no way that this is ever going to be affirmed by the circuit court."

Turning to the trial scheduled on March 4th by Judge Tanya Chutkan that is on hold while the court considers the immunity appeal, Akerman said the former president is doomed from the day he walks into the courtroom.

"It's pretty clear what the law is," he told host Phang before later adding, "What is really at stake here is getting this trial that is scheduled for March 4th back on track, because the minute that Donald Trump is in the dock, the jury a sworn in — he is gone."

"He's going to be convicted and be on his way to the big house," he added. "That is what he is concerned about. His only legal defense here, it's not on the facts, it's not on the law, it is on delay."
