Donald Trump's decision to go on Truth Social and threaten the citizenship of native New Yorker Rosie O'Donnell became an object of fascination on Saturday morning with some observers wondering what set him off this time.
Others suggested it was an attempt to distract observers from the Jeffrey Epstein civil war taking place within his administration.
Early Saturday, the president of the free world declared the popular comedian a "Threat to Humanity" on his social media platform.
He wrote, "Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"
That led Esquire editor Dave Holmes to bluntly suggest, "Everything else aside, 'Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Country' is just a very stupid string of words."
Attorney Adam Steinbaugh wrote, "I think you should be able to say things the president doesn’t like and still be a citizen. Maybe we should write that down somewhere," which led Rolling Stone journalist Thor Benson to comment, "Trump is such an alpha that, as president of the United States, he still writes angry posts about Rosie O'Donnell"
"hate to be the 'it’s a distraction' guy but the sole reason Trump’s talking about Rosie O’Donnell is to take the heat off his admin being responsible for loss of American lives in Texas. Everybody is taking the bait. Or they’ll say dumb shit like “we can do two things.” No. Keep your eye on the ball." was posted on the Bluesky account for the band known as the Mountain Goats.
Former MSNBC personality Keith Olbermann went on an extended tirade, writing, "There are absolutely no circumstances under which Trump can 'take away' the citizenship of anyone native-born His mere threat to do so immediately disqualifies him from remaining president To the rest of those in office: Someone else needs to be running this country, today."
He later added, "We have been building to this point since '15. We are here: Trump believes he is above all laws and the constitution. He is a clear and present danger to the future of this country and every one of us in it O'Donnell is right: he shares responsibility for the Texas deaths," before posting, "To MAGA: if YOU don't stop him now, he will eventually threaten to take away your citizenship."
Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko contributed, "Rosie O’Donnell must know who’s in the Epstein files if Trump is trying to make her go away."
"Rosie O’Donnell is one of the most caring & generous people I’ve ever known. Her, ‘For All Kids Foundation’ has awarded over $22 million in Early Childhood Care and Education grants to 1,400 child-related organizations And thats a fraction of her work for others. Trump has given nothing to others," wrote actress Mia Farrow.
