'Raised a lot of money for the next race': Trump says he's unsure if he can run again

President Donald Trump is once again flirting with the unconstitutional idea that he could pursue a third term in office.

The comments came Monday during a speech at his Trump National Doral Miami golf club for the Congressional Institute’s annual retreat for House Republicans as he read from a teleprompter in what appeared to be prepared remarks.

“I've raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I can't use for myself, but I'm not 100% sure,” Trump said to laughter in the audience. “Because…I don’t know...I think I'm not allowed to run again. I'm not sure.”

He added: “Am I allowed to run again, Mike [Johnson]? I better not get you involved in that,” he said to more laughter from congressional Republicans in the room.

Trump went on to say that he’s raised “a tremendous amount” from his “tele town halls,” which he added “are very special that nobody else is able to even contemplate using. We’ve gotten a lot of people elected with those tele town halls.

The ominous suggestion from Trump, who was sworn into a second term last week, would go against the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment, which prohibits anyone who has been elected for two terms from running for a third time.

Trump has made similar statements. Just after his election victory in November, he said: "I suspect I won’t be running again unless you say, 'He’s so good we’ve got to figure something else out,'" according to media reports.

While delivering his speech Monday, Trump also said, “I don’t know how anybody could even vote for the other side. In many cases they don’t but they do get credit for it, you have to think about that.”
