President Donald Trump was furious with the Supreme Court on Wednesday, unleashing accusations against the justices.
Trump wrote his rant on his Truth Social platform and included several claims.
"Does anybody have any idea how much Money and Prestige the United States Supreme Court has cost our Nation with their negative Rulings on Birthright Citizenship and TARIFFS? The answer, TRILLIONS AND TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS!" Trump wrote.
Trump's attorneys have asked the Supreme Court to overturn the $83.3 million defamation loss to E. Jean Carroll, the columnist who accused him of sexual assault. Trump has denied Carroll's claim that he sexually assaulted her in the 1990s, but he lost Carroll's defamation suit and an appeal in federal court.
Trump has faced multiple losses against the high court.
The Supreme Court has pushed back on two parts of Trump's policy agenda: birthright citizenship and tariffs.
In February, the high court ruled 6–3 in Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act does not authorize the President to impose tariffs, striking down the sweeping global tariffs he had imposed under that law.
And in June, the Court ruled 6–3 in Trump v. Barbara. The justices determined that Trump's executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship "cannot be reconciled with the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which confers citizenship on anyone 'born … in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.'" It upheld automatic citizenship for children born on U.S. soil regardless of their parents' immigration status.
