
The new ruling from the conservative-dominated U.S. Supreme Court forcing the sale of TikTok is likely to become a bigger political problem for Donald Trump, as the shutdown will occur just as he takes office.
However, analysts say that he should be held responsible since three of the justices who upheld the government's policy on TikTok were appointed by him during his first term.
Speaking to MSNBC on Friday, Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky said that Republicans should be blamed squarely since his conservative majority is in charge of the Supreme Court and because the GOP-led House passed the bill.

"You break it, you own it," she said. "Donald Trump wanted this ban. He got it. Congratulations, Mr. President-elect, it's your problem now. All these 20-year-olds who want to blame somebody when their TikTok goes dark, they can blame Donald Trump because the reality is Joe Biden is out of here."
Still, she expects Democrats will flub the debate because the leaders "don't know how to communicate, so you never underestimate the ability of Democrats to blow what I just set up, which is to put the blame squarely on the people who will be enforcing this ban."
Given Democrats aren't in power in any branch of government, she said it's "not their problem."
Former Republican Rep. David Jolly (FL) reiterated arguments for why TikTok isn't a safe app, explaining that if a domestic company has American data, it must follow U.S. rules. However, if a foreign adversary runs the company, it becomes a different matter.
"Ultimately, we're endangering our own citizens if we ignore what the Supreme Court rightly said today, which is there are legitimate national security risks," he said.
