A former Donald Trump appointee to the State Department expressed frustration over the Republican-controlled House Oversight Committee forcing Hillary Clinton to give a deposition on her relationship with Jeffrey Epstein that could end up backfiring on the president.
Sitting on panel on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe,“ Republican Matthew Bartlett became animated when co-host Jonathan Lemire asked, “So talk to us about how you see today going and indeed weigh in on that notion here, that the Republicans may be inadvertently setting a trap in some ways for President Trump.”
“Listen, Jonathan, I am a Republican, I'm still a conservative, and I think there are some very legitimate questions about what you said, you know, justice for the hundreds if not thousands of girls that were trafficked, that were abused,” he replied.
“As Molly [Jong-Fast] said, we've seen in the UK now, [British Labour Party member] Peter Mandelson, Prince Andrew being questioned,” he noted. “So now, here with lingering questions around very powerful men in politics and finance, who do we go to? Hillary Clinton? I mean, come on now!”
“This is just unbelievable,” he ranted before recalling previous Republican investigations into the Clintons.
“Do we think that this is tied to Whitewater? Do we think the Epstein files are in the White House travel office?” he sarcastically asked. “This is more than political theater. I mean, this is theater of the absurd. So, you know, I don't expect a lot.“
