'Open season': Expert says Trump heading straight for a 'danger moment' with UK visit

Donald Trump’s so far smooth appearance as he visits the United Kingdom could end badly, according to the former Deputy to Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Appearing on CNN International, Sir Alan Duncan claimed the beginning of the visit has gone well while admitting the American president, who is not popular overseas, has been “hermetically sealed” away from the public.

However, he said a scheduled press conference where Trump will face the British press could get ugly since it is likely his problems in the U.S., including his relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, will likely be aired.

As he explained, “These visits are very, very carefully organized and they're sort of hermetically sealed from any kind of awkward public demonstration. But the awkward moment is the press conference, I think, because not only can that raise issues of foreign policy between the US and the UK, it may be that some people will talk, ask questions of the President about what's going on in the United States.”

“So it is sort of open season for that little bit when you have a press conference,” he added. “So that, I think, is the danger moment for anyone who wants to, you know, throw a grenade into the works and spoil it if you like.”

“But that is free speech and open government, so that's part and parcel of the structure,” he noted.
