A senior diplomat reacted with shock as President Donald Trump was delivering his speech to the United Nations.

While Trump was speaking to the General Assembly on Tuesday, Washington Post correspondent Ishaan Tharoor said he received a text message from a "senior foreign diplomat posted at the UN."

"This man is stark, raving mad. Do Americans not see how embarrassing this is?" the diplomat reportedly said.

During the speech, Trump claimed he had ended foreign wars and questioned the purpose of the United Nations.

"We're the hottest country anywhere in the world," the president insisted. "I'm really good at this stuff. Your countries are going to hell."

Trump also said he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize while bragging about military strikes on alleged drug boats near Venezuela.

"We will blow you out of existence," he warned.
