After a rough go at Davos, where President Donald Trump ended up walking back his threatening rhetoric about plans to take control of Greenland, he is coming back to the U.S. from Switzerland with collapsing poll numbers showing his reputation is in freefall to an extreme degree.
On Thursday, Trump signed his "Council of Peace" charter alongside a group of second-tier world leaders. Simultaneously, the New York Times released polling data revealing significant public dissatisfaction with his administration.
According to the Times' survey, fewer than one-third of voters believe the country is better off than when Trump returned to office a year ago.
Majorities of voters disapprove of Trump's handling of key issues, including the economy, immigration, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and military operations in Venezuela. Most significantly, 51 percent of Americans reported that Trump's policies have reduced their standard of living.
Independent voters expressed particularly harsh assessments. When asked whether Trump is "on track to be one of the worst presidents in U.S. history," 42 percent agreed, while an additional 15 percent handed him a dismal rating of "below-average."
The Times reported that 57 percent of voters believe Trump is prioritizing the wrong issues. This sentiment was strongest among voters under 30, with 69 percent expressing that view—the highest percentage of any age group.
