Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe got into a debate with MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell on Wednesday as the two sparred over the 2023 election results and what it says about the future of the Democratic Party and Joe Biden.

Mitchell tried to argue that Tuesday's election that benefitted Democrats was still bad for President Joe Biden because he's still old. She said that the abortion issue might be unpopular for Donald Trump but that he can simply change his position as he's done so many times on so many issues.

"No. Listen, Trump can't change his position on that issue," said McAuliffe.

"But he has before," said Mitchell.

"But it's broader than this," McAuliffe explained. "Joe Biden will, next year, talk about the economy. He is fighting two big international incidents, Ukraine, Israel."

"What about his age?" Mitchell asked.

"Have you watched Trump the last four months? That elevator is not going to the top floor anymore," said McAuliffe. " He is attacking a young law clerk up in New York."

Mitchell argued it was making him more popular with the trials and his polls increased.

" Elections speak for themselves. We had a historic night in Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia," the former governor said.

"He wasn't on the ballot. Neither was Biden," said Mitchell.

McAulliffe argued it's Biden's Democratic Party and Trump's Republican Party and when it comes to what people want it's clear they're voting with Democrats.
