Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon and ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson launched into a scathing indictment of Fox News and decades of U.S. foreign policy decisions during an episode of “The Tucker Carlson Show” that aired Monday night.

The moment came as Bannon joined Carlson to discuss the war in Iran and unleashed a barrage of criticism against Fox News, which he accused of not delivering "reality" to the American public.

“I never criticize Fox because they were so kind to me,” said Carlson, who left Fox News in 2023. “But they are playing a central role in the propaganda operation here.”

Bannon tied the current conflict to the information campaign in the lead-up to the Iraq War.

“I promoted the Iraq War,” Carlson admitted.

“We were lied to about everything,” Bannon said. “At first, the American people supported it, given the information they were given. Then later, they realized that, hey, not only was the initial predicate for this a lie, all the updates were kind of a lie. We really weren’t winning.”

Bannon traced the rise of Trump to two seismic events: the “epic failed” Iraq War and the 2008 financial crisis.

“Those were cataclysmic events that shattered public trust,” Bannon said, pointing to past populist movements like those led by Pat Buchanan and Ross Perot. He added, “You could see people were trying to get there but couldn’t.”

Bannon also claimed the media, including Fox News, haven’t been honest with Americans about why the United States gets involved in foreign conflicts.

“You’re just lied to the entire time,” he said. “That’s what’s happening here. We’re not being dealt with straight on the information that’s being put out.”
