New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said this week that there's a real effort underway to convince former President Donald Trump to pick ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson as his vice president.
During an interview with The Dispatch's Jamie Weinstein, Haberman was asked about rumors swirling about Trump naming Carlson, who is notorious for spreading racist conspiracy theories, as his running mate.
"It's a real thing I'm hearing as a possibility," said Haberman. "The likelihood of it, I don't know. I think there will be a pretty professionalized vetting process. Honestly, I know that might not sound believable based on what we've seen from Trump historically. But Trump's current political team... is the best that he's had."
Haberman then expressed some skepticism that Trump would really back the former Fox News host because "Tucker Carlson is a big star in his own right" and "I'm not sure how Trump would contend with that."
Weinstein also asked Haberman about who Trump could pick as his next attorney general who would have any possibility of getting confirmed in the United States Senate — and she acknowledged at the moment that no one in particular was coming to mind, while also rehashing Trump's past troubled relationships with former Attorneys General Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions.
