Vivek Ramaswamy reportedly intends to announce he'll run for governor of Ohio while also running the Department of Government Efficiency in Washington, D.C., according to a report.

The Washington Post reported the news Friday, citing a Ramaswamy insider, as Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) is term-limited.

This comes after President-elect Donald Trump urged Ramaswamy to replace Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH). DeWine instead replaced him with Lt. Gov. Jon Husted.

“The statement is drafted. It is ready,” the person told the Post, of Ramaswamy's imminent announcement.

“Vivek’s base plan remains [the] same: to get accomplishments at DOGE and then announce a run for governor shortly,” said an Ohio operative familiar with the ex-presidential candidate's thinking.

Trump announced that the promised $2 trillion cuts from DOGE must be completed by the summer of 2026, specifically July 4. This gives Ramaswamy just three months left to run a state-wide gubernatorial campaign.

According to the Post, two people with knowledge said Trump told Ramaswamy to consider running for the Senate seat.

He's never held public office.
