In what appears to be a vicious swipe at Donald Trump's legal adviser Rudy Giuliani -- or possibly Trump defender and legal scholar Alan Dershowitz -- former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara pronounced sentence on the quality of legal representation the president has been getting.

With special counsel Robert Muller's investigation apparently closing in on Trump, and the president and his closest advisers frantically pushing back at the drumbeat of almost daily revelations that he is in increasing trouble, Bharara made an "observation" to anyone else who might find themselves in Trump's legal quagmire.

In particular, he seemed to use Giuliani's often times unhinged appearances on cable TV as an example of what can go wrong.

"Observation: prominent people under investigation often pick truly terrible legal advocates. There are exceptions of course," he tweeted before adding a pithy, "But the loudest jackass is not your best bet when freedom is at stake. Pick the smart quiet people sometimes."
