MSNBC’s Jen Psaki thinks she uncovered the secret behind right-wing media’s winning strategy – and what progressives can do to match them.
Speaking to comedian Jon Stewart on his podcast this week, Psaki readily admitted that progressive media could benefit from a shakeup to match a key ingredient the right excels at that the left hasn't seemed to grasp.
“Look they're kicking progressive a-- right now,” Stewart told Psaki. “And if progressives don't organize their media, their think tanks and all that, it's going to continue to happen – it's chaos.”
Psaki, who served as White House press secretary under the Biden administration, came ready with an answer. She said what she believes differentiates right-wing media figures from their counterparts on the left is “support within the system."
“Theo Von appears on Joe Rogan's show right, he promotes what Joe Rogan's doing, but they all promote all of the things each other are doing, and what the elected officials I guess are doing too,” Psaki said. “And the left is a little bit more kind of discombobulated in terms of supporting the different entities on the left. There is not a left ecosystem that matches the right ecosystem.”

Stewart pushed back on Psaki’s characterization of Von and Rogan as part of the right-wing media machine. He said they were “different animals” that aren’t “part of “any machine.”
“I would consider them in a more probably libertarian comedic,” Stewart said with a laugh. “And if you watch or listen to their shows a lot of times it's just pure goofing off.”
Psaki concluded that while she may be “loosely putting them in that category” she believes them to both be “supportive of the Trump enterprise.”
She added earlier in the podcast that messaging issues may not be the only fatal mistake behind Democratic losses last election.
"It's misinformation and disinformation," she said. "I think there's a lot of layers of it."
