Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) on Monday had some harsh words for fellow Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) about his stance on the January 6th United States Capitol building riots.

While appearing on CNN, Durbin was asked by host John Berman to react to Johnson's recent statement that the riots at the Capitol, which were aimed at stopping Congress from certifying President Joe Biden's 2020 election victory, were not an insurrection.

"Ron Johnson is in his own orbit politically," Durbin said.

Durbin said Johnson was trying to revise history for former President Donald Trump's benefit, which he said the United States Senate would not allow him to do.

"At this point in time, Republicans are trying to rewrite history," he said. "There is too much on the pavement in Washington D.C. to ignore. We have paid a heavy price for the provocation of that mob by the president."

Despite Johnson's attitude toward the riots, Durbin said that many Republicans were on board with a bipartisan investigation into the origins of the Capitol riots.
