President Donald Trump on Friday announced officially that a tentative peace between the U.S. and Iran has collapsed.

Trump wrote on Truth Social about 10:30 a.m. that the U.S. had agreed to requested talks with the war-torn nation, but with a caveat.

"The United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!" Trump wrote.

Earlier this week, the U.S. military announced it had launched a series of strikes on Iran following attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. Central Command said Iran had violated the terms of the ceasefire.

When questioned about the development during a NATO summit, Trump proved unable to name the nation upon which he'd waged war.

"I told this story yesterday: we had 111 missiles shot by the Islamic Republic of Japan,” Trump said Wednesday. “They were shot at the aircraft carrier!”
