During a question and answer period at the Young Women’s Leadership Summit being held in Grapevine, Texas, the wife of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk took exception when her husband chastised unmarried women in the audience if they were not "prioritizing" finding a husband.
Seated in chairs before the throng at conference which attracted a reported 2,500 attendees, the discussion centered on marriage and children before careers with Kirk at one time stating, "college is a 'scam' but a good place to pursue the proverbial 'Mrs.' degree" before adding "that if they’re not married with kids by age 30, the chances of either happening for them will drop precipitously," reported The Washington Post.
In a video posted to YouTube by Kirk, he posed a question to the audience, which led to a look of dismay from his wife, Erika, when he followed up with a lecture.
"For everyone who rose the hand of [choosing] amazing family, how many of you, every single day, it's your purpose for being is finding a husband, then?" he asked.
After apparently getting a tepid response when asking for a show of hands, he lectured, "Every hand should go up."
As his wife at first grimaced and then switched to a skeptical smile, he continued, "But I thought you wanted an amazing family?" which led her to utter, "Ehhh."
"You have to prioritize and aim at what you want the most," he soldiered on while ignoring her. "I might be the only speaker who says this these next couple days."
Given a chance to respond, Ericka stated, "You just have to make sure you find the right one."
"I know, but you have to prioritize it," he shot back.
